The Village of Whitehouse is just 18 miles from downtown Toledo. The west part of Lucas County offers hundreds of miles of walking, hiking, and biking trails within some of the best local parks and forests. Oak Openings Preserve Metropark is the largest of Toledo's Metroparks. It boasts two campgrounds, two cabins and the country's only public treehouse village.

Comprising 3,332 acres in Henry, Fulton and Lucas counties, Maumee State Forest features a 2-mile self-guided hike on the Stewardship Trail, 66 miles of unmarked fire lanes for hiking and 8 miles of bridle trails. The picturesque Wiregrass Lake is a popular spot for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. This restored natural setting is home to a diverse array of dragonflies.
